When Kavita Kapur started Floral Art, her flower art shop, twenty years back, there was not much market for flower jewellery. But today, her products are sought by many B-Town celebrities. The flower corsage she made was worn by Alia Bhatt on her Mehndi day. Not just this, Kavita’s flower jewellery has been worn by many celebrities like Katrina Kaif, Kajal Agarwal, Karishma Tanna, Sonam Kapoor etc at their wedding.
Kavita Kaur started Floral Art in 2002 when her husband’s business started to decline. First, they started a nursery. But in her late 30s, Kavita learned the art of Ikebana, the Japanese flower arrangement, from Lalita Kalambi from the Ohara School of Ikebana. That resulted in her starting Floral Art, the shop that sells floral arrangements and jewellery made of flowers.
But business had not been a success overnight. Kavita remembers her husband going to deliveries and telling the customers that his wife does all these by hand and if they need anything more please feel free to call on the number on their card.
“In the last 8-10 years, people have really started to appreciate floral art,” Kavita says, adding that she started seeing her business becoming successful around seven-eight years ago. Also, her daughter Srishti joined the business, and Srishti handles the marketing, communications, branding, and social media for Floral Art. Social media has helped in growing the business. Although most of their market is through word of mouth. And because the celebs wear their flower jewellery at their weddings, common people are also tempted to seek out the same shop for their needs.
